Context aware solutions using IoT

Devlot

Research in the DevIoT Laboratory is focused on the practical problems in industry and in our daily lives by incorporating context awareness into the solution of these problems.

Our research group is working on context aware computing which is centered on the notion of the Internet of Things, primarily employing sensors for data collection to develop smart applications. We have two active projects currently in progress.

  • The first one focuses on the development of a general software platform called PCAD, that will enable developers rapidly develop context aware applications. Through this platform, application developers will relieve themselves from the issues of acquisition, storage and management of context data provided by the data providers. Therefore, they can fully concentrate only on the problem that they are solving.

  • Our second project tackles a problem of real importance- livestock farming- which is a sensor based software application that involves hardware components as well. Livestock physiological data is collected using sensors, and the data is made available to veterinary physician to help in the diagnosis of livestock diseases. This application and other future applications are being designed in such a way that they will eventually use the PCAD platform.

Our group also investigates several variants of IoTs applications such as Smart City and Smart Laundry services based on software-driven technologies.
